Cody Bellinger Signs With The Chicago Cubs

Cody Bellinger may be one of the biggest fall offs in the game of baseball in recent memory. Bellinger has just signed a one-year 17.5 million dollar deal with the Chicago Cubs.

In my opinion, he is being overpaid for this year the way he has played for the past 2 years has been absolutely horrendous. Personally, I believe Bellinger should be getting paid 10 million at the most but yes 10 million is a lot still. Bellinger debuted with the Dodgers in 2017 where he won rookie of the year playing in 132 games hitting .267 with an .933 ops.

Great numbers as a rookie. Bellinger has always had great defense with an elite arm in the outfield in 2018 he continued to show promising numbers but unfortunately hit for worse stats across the board. Then comes 2019 where he shined and won MVP. Bellinger played 156 games where he hit .305 with an 1.035 ops, with 47 home runs and 115 RBIs (ops is on-base plus slugging).

Then his downfall began hitting .210 this past year with an .654 ops with 19 home runs and 68 RBIs. he hasn’t been the same since. This is a questionable pickup for the Cubs because of how bad he has been the past 2 years but if he comes back strong and keeps up his defense in the outfield then it will be worth it.

The Chicago Cubs are looking to not be one of the worst teams in the league and this is a decent start. Like I have said in all my other articles I am very excited to see how everyone does on their new teams. More signings to discuss stay tuned.
